An ultrarunner, a banker-turned writer and a mathematician explore how, even when the odds are stacked against us, success can be found in the latest Berwins Salon North event, Harrogate (April 11).
Endurance running and mindset coach Allie Bailey joins author and award-winning mathematician Marcus du Sautoy, and banker turned writer, media executive and satirist Nels Abbey in Harrogate this month, when they will deliver the latest TED-style talks designed to challenge our perceptions.
The Berwins Salon North series, voted number six in the ‘Top 100 Things to do in the World’ by GQ magazine, is sponsored by Berwins Solicitors who are committed to showcasing the most stimulating ideas in science, technology, psychology and the arts.
Allie Bailey has finished over 200 marathons and ultramarathons and run in some of the most extreme places in the world. What makes her achievements even more remarkable is that she accomplished most of them while battling depression and alcoholism. Speaking with disarming honesty, Allie debunks myths around running and mental health and opens up about her own experiences.
Nels Abbey offers unique insights into the world of business and economics through the triumphs and tribulations of Hip Hop’s biggest names, as he takes the audience back to school with a class of a different kind.
They are followed by Marcus du Sautoy who explores the inseparable link between games and mathematics and asks, what is the best property in Monopoly? And how can pi help you win rock, paper, scissors?
Sharon Canavar, Harrogate International Festivals Chief Executive, said: “With Berwins Salon North you’re guaranteed to learn something new about yourself and the world around you.
